Córdoba is one of the 23 provinces of Argentina. Located in the Central Region, its variety of landscapes includes a fertile countryside, 2000 mt high mountain ranges, with valleys and artificial lakes, and marshlands sheltering aquatic birds. It also has vibrant cities as well as picturesque historical villages. 

Córdoba City

Córdoba is the capital city of Córdoba Province and the second most populous city in Argentina after Buenos Aires, with about 1.5 million inhabitants. It is located in the foothills of the Sierras Chicas on the Suquía River and it was founded on 6 July 1573 by Jerónimo Luis de Cabrera, who named it after Córdoba, Spain.

This city has important historical, cultural and touristic attractions, such as the Cathedral Church, the traditional San Martín Square, the San Martín Theater, the Paseo del Buen Pastor walk, the Ferreyra Palace, the Emilio Caraffa Museum, the Natural Sciences Museum and the valuable Manzana Jesuítica, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2000.

The National University of Córdoba (UNC) is Argentina’s oldest university and the seventh to be created in Spanish America. It was founded in 1613 by the Jesuit Order. Because of this, Córdoba earned the nickname “La Docta” (“The Learned”).

Los Cocos and Punilla Valley 

Los Cocos is located in the north of Punilla Valley, lying on the western slope of the Sierras Chicas. Along with the neighbouring villages of La Cumbre and Capilla del Monte, it is one of the main touristic places in the northern Cordoba Sierras. 

Among the attractions in these area, you can climb the mountain in a cable car, do some trekking, get lost in a laberynth garden, or visit the house of the Argentinian writer Manuel Mujica Lainez, nowadays a museum. Nearby, you can visit the charming village of La Cumbre, go paragliding in Cuchi Corral, or admire the imposing image of Mount Uritorco and its mysteries.
